Lately an interest of having a bicycle crept up on me.I was given a vintage racing bike from my father in law which had quite a mileage and was likely around 20 years of age.A solid red body with front and back gears with suspension on the front.Exposed to the rain and sun makes it rusty and haggard, not quite a word for a bike but it is looking in a bad shape.
Bought a can of Wd-40,and did some cleaning.Managed to smooth out the brakes.Tyres were totally flat, had to push to the bike shop to pump up the tyres.Tubes are still ok and decided to test ride : ) Cycled all the way under the train tracks, but the chain kept falling off since the gears are faulty.Managed to cycle back home though : )
Woke up next morning and decided to cycle to the masjid for subuh prayers.Well, chained came off twice but alhamdulillah managed to reach masjid just in time for the prayer : ) went home with no incident of chain falling off.Wife suggested to buy a new bike since i'm also keen on installing a baby seat to bring my 1.8 year old hero to the masjid.Investing on a new bike would be great for father and son bonding, not to mention the exercising benefit : D
Little Hero was asleep,i decided to test the bike again, riding it to the zuhur prayer at the masjid.Well,as expected, chain came off twice during the journey.Wife smiled when i got home, suggested to her if we can try to trade in the bike, although personally i do not think it will be possible.Repairing the gears will cost as much as getting a new bike,so retiring it will be the best option.
